- The mould, essential in the construction of the cedar canoe, must be perfectly symmetric. It takes about three hundred hours to build a mould.
- The hull (ribs and planking) is made from thuya occidentalis (mistakenly called white cedar) free of knots.
- The decks, gunwales, stems, seats and keels are hand made from ash.
- The hull is covered with number 10 grade canvas for the standard models, and number 12 for the portage model (lighter).
- The seats, an exclusive design of Canots Lost-River, are hand caned.
- All the hardware (stem bands, deck ring, bolts, screws and tacks) is brass, bronze or stainless.
