The craftsman

Luc Melançon studied fine arts and environmental design at the University of Quebec in Montreal. While dedicated to visual arts, particularly sculpture, he taught fine arts including set decorations and costumes in the first and second grades. He was a photo technician for an international association and a graphic designer for diverse publications. He also completed a course in cabinetmaking.

In his spare time, Luc enjoys fishing and outdoor activities which peeked his interest in cedar canvas canoes. In 2004, Luc learned to build and restore cedar canoes. He studied and worked for a full year with Bill Wilson of Paugan Falls Canoes. In 2005 he founded Lost River Canoes, in the Laurentians, north of Montréal.
